In 1996, Caterpillar (China) Investment Co., Ltd. ("CCI") was established in Beijing to augment the increased investment and business development activities in China. Today, Caterpillar has invested in eleven manufacturing facilities in China. They produce hydraulic excavators, compactors, diesel engines, undercarriage, iron castings, motor graders, track-type tractors, wheel loaders, remanufactured products machinery components, and electric power generator sets.

To support a growing Caterpillar equipment population in the territory, CCI has established offices, training centers and product support facilities throughout China. A complete service network composed of five dealers helps users in the selection and proper application of Caterpillar equipment for different industries. Machines

Engines

Caterpillar engines are providing reliable power to numerous applications in the commercial and industrial sectors in the Greater China Region.

Caterpillar generator sets provide reliable prime and critical standby power for international airports (e.g. Hong Kong and Taipei), commercial buildings (e.g. Jinmao Building in Shanghai, the tallest building in China), manufacturing plants (e.g. Yue Yuen Industrial in Dongguan, the world's largest shoe manufacturer), hospitals (e.g. Shanghai Children's Medical Center) and telecommunication systems (e.g. ground satellite stations in the region) where uninterrupted power supply is vital to operations.

For natural resources exploration, Caterpillar 3400, 3500 and 3600 Series engines and generator sets are used at Daqing, Bohai and other major oil fields where some of the older Cat® engine models - such as D399 - are still contributing to production.

In the Xinjiang oil field, Cat gas engines are used for natural gas re-injection. At sanitary landfill sites in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Hangzhou, Cat gas generator sets are used for turning landfill gas to electric power supply.

Apart from generator sets, Cat locomotive engines are used for passenger services in mainland China and cargo transportation in Taiwan. Cat marine engines are widely used in tug boats, fast ferries, passenger launches, fishing vessels and pleasure crafts in the region.

Caterpillar Paving Products is a global leader in compaction and asphalt paving equipment. Our customers prepare road bases, finish the road surface, and repair and maintain roads. Our global dealer network supports more than 70 different models of paving and compaction products.

Surface reclamation

Our high-performance RM300 and RM500 Rotary Mixers provide full-depth reclamation and pulverization of surfaces up to 457 mm thick (508 mm total depth). The RM300 is powered by a 261 kW (350 hp) Cat® C11 engine with ACERT™ Technology. The RM500 uses a 403 kW (540 hp) Cat C15 engine with ACERT Technology.

Compaction

Many customers require a single machine that can perform all compaction functions. The CB534D, CB534D XW and CB564D Double Drum Vibratory Compactors deliver that flexibility. Initially shipped from Minneapolis, Minnesota, all three machines began shipping from our Xuzhou, China, facility in September 2006. Powered by fuel-efficient turbocharged Cat 3054 engines operating at 97 kW (130 hp), they meet STAGE II emissions requirements and thus the requirements of metropolitan areas such as Beijing.

Paving and Milling

The AP755 Asphalt Paver is a 21-ton machine that paves up to 13 meters wide. A closed-loop hydrostatic propel system allows for infinitely variable speed control for a smooth mat every time. Its Cat C7 engine with ACERT™ technique delivers 149 kW (202 hp).

To meet increased demand for road repair and rehabilitation, we introduced three milling machines. The PM102 (1-meter milling width), the PM200 (2-meter), and the PM201 incorporate high-performance Cat engines and components. The PM200 is built in Xuzhou, China.

Compactors

Compacting to specifications is critical for soil, landfill, and paving applications. Cat® compactors are specifically designed for all compaction operations. The Caterpillar Compactor family mainly includes three sub-families of compactors: asphalt compactors, pneumatic compactors and soil compactors.  Cold Planers

Cold planers, sometimes referred to as mills or profilers, remove worn or deteriorated pavement to a specified depth and slope. Cold planers grind bumps, ruts and other imperfections, leaving a textured surface that can be opened to traffic or overlaid with new pavement materials. A cold planer is equipped with a spinning rotor that grinds the pavement layer and a two-stage conveyor system that transfers the milled material to haul units.

 Asphalt Pavers

Cat® asphalt pavers with attached screed smoothly apply asphalt mix in various thicknesses and widths.

Pavers are available with rubber tracks, steel tracks or rubber tires.

They use a hopper, conveyors and augers to transfer asphalt mix from the transport vehicle to the screed. The screed, towed by the paver, floats over the asphalt mix and determines thickness, width, texture and provides initial compaction.  

 Rotary Mixers

Rotary mixers pulverize and/or mix materials in place. They are primarily used for two distinct applications: full-depth reclamation and soil stabilization. These applications can occur at a variety of different job sites, including roads and streets, airport runways and parking lots. Rotary mixers are also commonly used for site preparation and remediation.

Full-Depth Reclamation

Full-depth reclamation is a road maintenance technique where an existing road structure is pulverized in place to provide raw materials for rebuilding the road. It is distinguished from other techniques, such as cold planing or cold-in-place recycling, by the fact that the machine rotor always penetrates completely through the asphalt layer into the base.

Full-depth reclamation has many advantages over other maintenance techniques. Work occurs in-place and is comparatively fast; a production rate of one mile (1.6 km) per day of two-lane road is common. The road or street can remain open, and existing aggregates can be re-used. Reclamation generally offers significant savings in time and money when compared to the initial costs of other pavement maintenance techniques.

Soil Stabilization

Soil stabilization is a road construction technique where the engineering properties of soil are improved using mechanical or chemical means. Soil stabilization techniques are also useful for chemical remediation applications, where chemicals are introduced to a material in order to neutralize hazardous substances.

Rotary mixers are ideal for blending additives (dry chemicals, emulsions or aggregates) with the base layer to form a homogenous, well-graded and consistent mixture that provides superior stability for use as a base. They can also be used to size the stabilized material to specified maximum particle size, or aerate soil to reduce its moisture content prior to compaction.
